ADPP Guinea Bissau Capacity Statement

 

Mission:
Creation of Economic, Social and Cultural Development in the communities based on the Solidary Humanism and people to people approach, establishing Projects through which development is implemented in key areas of Education, Health, Agriculture and mobilizing people for active participation.

 

Objectives:
Assisting in Cases of Emergency and Disasters
To help the natural victims of hunger, war, disasters, accident of atomic origin, plagues and other catastrophies. To help and to transfer the people and to rebuild the zones affected by this type of disasters.

 

Development
To help poor countries, the poor populations of the world and to help them to organize proper initiatives of development.

 

Protection of the Natural Habitat
To rescue the threatened elements of the Terrestrial Atmosphere, land, plants and animals. To initiate shared protection against the abuse of the rivers, seas and forests. To implement all the type of projects guided in the direction of protecting the natural habitat of the land.

 

Construction of the Organization
To serve in general public interest and form allowed in the organization’s values through participating in many ways in the activities of the association. To establish capacity building by training staff and volunteers. To form associations, to initiate porting groups and to establish a world-wide net of cooperates and activists.

 

Inquiry and Innovation
To serve the activities mentioned above by means of the development methods and systems for the implementation of the same ones. To produce and to distribute to publish informative material to it, to contend specific information regarding the activities related above. To operate exclusively for charity and education’s ends.

 

Strategies:
ADPP Guinea Bissau mission and objective are set within broad and specific interest areas of community development. The achievement of such interests are done through implementation of projects within the following strategic key areas:

1.  Increase Food Security
A National Farmers Clubs Program with the aim of revitalizing the agricultural production, increase the income and improve the health of the people in the rural areas has been developed. The program targets up to 500.000 beneficiaries.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 2007 between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, ADPP and The Federation HUMANA People to People which describes under which conditions the implementation of this program will take place.
ADPP Guinea Bissau in cooperation with HUMANA People to People and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is working with various donors to provide funds for the realization of the plan.
Until now 4 different projects have come into being since 2008, benefitting a total of 5.050 farmers as primary beneficiaries and approximately 40.000 people as secondary beneficiaries.  

 

2.  Graduate Teachers for Basic Education.
A strategy to train qualified and compassionate primary school teachers was elaborated. It includes establishment and operation of 7 locally established Teacher Training Colleges with a total capacity to graduate 840 primary school teachers per year, when fully implemented, and train the necessary number of teacher to reach the Millennium Development Goal of Education for All.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 2007 between the Ministry of National Education, Culture and Science of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, ADPP and The Federation HUMANA People to People, which describes the conditions under which the implementation of this program will take place.
The first Teacher Training College has started in 2012 with a pilot team of 40 students in Cacheu region.
ADPP Guinea Bissau in cooperation with HUMANA People to People and the Ministry of National Education, Culture and Science is working with various donors to provide funds for the realization of the strategy.  

 

3.  Providing Vocational Training
A strategy was made to establish 30 ADPP Vocational Schools throughout the country, with the capacity to graduate 2.000 students annually, when fully implemented. A wide range of professions and skills, both traditional and modern, will be part of the program, and both practical training and theoretical studies will be among the methods, equipping the youth to contribute to the economic development and growth of Guinea Bissau.

ADPP Guinea Bissau in cooperation with HUMANA People to People and the Ministry of National Education, Culture and Science is working to identify donors to provide funds for the realization of the strategy.  
 
4.  Fighting HIV & AIDS.
A comprehensive plan to fight HIV & AIDS was elaborated. It includes the implementation of the project; Total Control of the Epidemic, which entails that every person is reached with individual counselling and mobilization by a TCE Field Officer with the aim to systematically gain total control of the epidemic. The entire nation – 1.500.000 persons – will be covered at a cost of US$ 2.22 per person per year over 3 years.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 2008 between the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, ADPP Guinea Bissau and The Federation HUMANA People to People, which describes the conditions under which the implementation of this program will take place.
The first HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention program started in 2009 with funding from Global Fund round 7 and with National Aids Council as partner. In 2011 this developed into starting the first TCE program involving 70.000 people in the Gabú region.
