On World Literacy Day, we celebrate the power of learning and the fundamental role teachers play in building societies with greater knowledge, opportunities and participation.
At the DNS-BACHIL Teacher Training College, we train teachers who are prepared to bring knowledge into classrooms and contribute to the development of their communities, particularly in rural areas of Guinea-Bissau.
Literacy goes far beyond learning to read and write. It is the ability to understand, communicate, question, make decisions and actively participate in society. It is a tool that can open pathways and transform perspectives.
That is why training a teacher means investing far beyond a single classroom. Every trained teacher carries with them knowledge and tools that can reach many children, families and communities.
Because learning can change one person. And a teacher can multiply that learning across many other lives.
On this World Literacy Day, we celebrate everyone who teaches, everyone who learns, and everyone who believes in the power of education to open pathways to the future.
