On 17 June 2026, the APICA GNB Project took part in the commemoration of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, organized by the Organization for the Defense and Development of Wetlands in Guinea-Bissau (ODZH).

Representing the project, the National Coordinator, Dr. Namir Lopes, delivered a presentation entitled “Guinea-Bissau and the Fight Against Desertification and Drought”, highlighting the country's environmental challenges and the importance of coordinated actions to protect natural resources and strengthen climate resilience.
The event was held at the ODZH headquarters, located next to the National Institute of Studies and Research (INEP), and brought together representatives of public institutions, civil society organizations, environmental specialists, and community members.

The discussions focused on the impacts of climate change, land degradation, increasing drought risks, and the urgent need to promote sustainable land management practices. Participants also emphasized the importance of strengthening national and local initiatives aimed at environmental conservation, adaptation, and resilience-building.
The commemoration provided an important platform for dialogue and knowledge-sharing, reinforcing the collective commitment to addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development in Guinea-Bissau.
