The “Adaptation of Agricultural Production Systems in Coastal Areas of Northwest GuineaBissau”
project seeks to strengthen climate information and early warning systems for climate-resilient development and adaptation in Guinea-Bissau. Wells drying up, storms, and shifts in rainfall patterns are the primary challenges faced by people in rural areas.

People in the communities will benefit from increased climateresilient sustainable development through actions that address livelihoods, protect coastal areas andriverbanks and increase the resilience of people’s health, food and water security.

In 2024, the 5-year project started with funding from Green Climate Funds through Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) as responsible for the overall implementation and ADPP-GB as the executing entity.
The aims are to enhance the climate resilience of livelihoods and food security for the most vulnerable populations in the coastal areas of the Oio and Cacheu regions of Guinea Bissau.
The project was launched in February 2024 and is expected to impact 82,450 people in 34 villages in Oio and Cacheu regions, The project includes 8,500 small-scale farmers, 40,000 people, 460 youth, 110 community members and 150 government extension workers and decision-makers.

These 82,450 beneficiaries are household members of 8,500 farmers living in the 34 target communities. All community-level activities cover these 34 communities and the 8,500 participating households. APICA GNB is essentially an inclusive and gender-sensitive project. Therefore, a Gender Assessment and a Gender Action Plan were conducted with the aim of addressing gender aspects and responding to the needs and priorities of the communities.
8,500
smallholder farmers (at least 70% women), members of 170 Farmers’ Clubs, will benefit from model plots, community horticultural plots, and training in CRA and CCA.
40,000
people (60% of whom are women) in the target areas will be reached through awareness-raising activities, engaging 1,360 people (1,000 women). These 40,000 people will also benefit from literacy classes.
460
young people (50% women) will be trained in vocational courses as follows: 115 (climate-resilient agriculture) + 115 (post-harvest practices) + 70 (animal husbandry) + 160 (business management).
