Education and Community Action for Better Environmental Health

The Environmental Health Education Centre promotes the link between health, the environment and community education, helping communities understand environmental risks and adopt practices that contribute to healthier and more sustainable lives.

The project strengthens the capacity of communities and local stakeholders to respond to the challenges posed by climate change and environment-related diseases.

Key Activities

The project implemented community awareness campaigns, radio programmes, training sessions and environmental health education initiatives.

The Institute for the Development of Education (INDE) developed the Environmental Health Manual, which was officially approved by the Ministries of Environment, Agriculture, Health and Education. The manual has become an important educational resource supporting environmental health awareness activities throughout the country.

A total of 200 educational albums were produced and used during community awareness campaigns.

The project was implemented by the DNS-Bachil Teacher Training College in collaboration with trained teachers, student teachers, community leaders and community health workers.

Results Achieved

  • 30,400 people mobilised through community activities;
  • Approximately 40,000 people reached through radio programmes on environmental health;
  • 806 children, women and older people received support and medical assistance;
  • 200 teachers, 200 community leaders and 200 community health workers actively engaged;
  • Activities successfully implemented in 200 communities.

Impact

The project has increased communities' understanding of environmental health, promoted preventive behaviours, and strengthened local capacity to address the challenges of climate change and environment-related health issues.
