The Teacher Training College in Bachil was created in 2011 as a pilot project, based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2008 with the Ministry of Education of Guinea-Bissau to establish Teacher Training Colleges operated by ADPP-GB to train primary school teachers with a modern profile and amble capacities - a need long overdue and strongly expressed need.
A total of 284 graduated teachers contribute now to a skilled and capable new generation.
In 2024, students and teachers at the Teacher Training DNS-Bachil, besides training to be teachers, also worked with 200 communities in Environmental Health in cooperation with graduated teachers from the college.
Climate Changes are severe in Guinea-Bissau, and they cause environmental health problems for people, animals and plants.
In 2024, 42 teachers graduated. With a special focus on early childhood education, evidenced by the enrolment of 28 children in the pre-school at the Teacher Training College DNS-Bachil.
Because of the promotion of female participation, the Teacher Training College DNS-Bachil nearly reached 50% female participation, contributing to gender equality and the enrolment of girls in rural schools.
Each year, a new team of students starts in August and graduates in July, 3 years later, to give time to be employed by the Ministry of Education before the public-school year starts in October.
Teacher Training College DNS-Bachil, in partnership with the NGOs ASAD and ADPP-GB, is sharing information with the students in Bubaque High School and Primary School about ‘Strengthening the quality of teaching in the Bijagós archipelago, Guinea-Bissau.’
Training the next generation needs committed Teachers.
The Teacher Training College DNS-Bachil established the Network of Graduates, which grew to 30 teachers in 2024. It builds on working together across the different schools where the teachers work, contributing to the improvement of daily teaching, the operation, and the quality of their schools.
